Here are a few tips to help you get used to playing in time with the Microsong practice tracks.
Play with the videos -- Use the loop (repeat) function on your media player. This will be in the top menu under 'Play,' or you may be able to right-click on the player to bring up the play menu.
Watch the part in the video and play along. Then listen to the Microsong practice track, and match the part you played in the video with the music track. This may take a little practice.
Four-Beat Count -- Each Microsong begins with a four-beat count on the drums. The note sequence starts after the 4th beat.
Starting Note -- The first Microsong examples simply alternate between two notes. Make sure you know which note the sequence starts with.
Listen For High And Low Note -- Since the first Microsongs alternate between two notes, listen for which note is higher and which is lower.
Warmup: Play After The Beat -- If you have trouble matching your part with the track, then try playing your note after you hear the guitar note. This way, you're playing one note for each guitar note you hear.
Do this as a warmup until you are comfortable playing the notes in time with the track. This means you have to anticipate each note. To play in time, you can't wait to hear the note before you play.
