-- How long does it take to learn to play?
Depends on how old you are when you start, and what you want to play. There are simple songs and hard songs. Most adults can play with simple songs in 3 to 6 weeks, some can their first songs after only one or two lessons.
-- How can I make my guitar easier to play?
There are several things you can do to make your guitar easier to play. Click here to read more.
-- Do I have to read music to play, or to use your lessons?
No, it's not necessary to read music to use the lessons at GregsGuitar.Com. You don't have to read music to play by ear. Learning tablature and learning the note names on the guitar neck both help.
-- What is the most important advice for beginners?
Learning left hand chord shapes: open chords and power chords. Click here to read about hand-conditioning and muscle memory.
-- What is the best age to start playing guitar?
Playing guitar is difficult for most kids under about age 10. Kids younger than 10 can do well if there is an adult to help them practice, and if the child is motivated. Kids who listen to a wide variety of music will do better than a kid who only likes two songs. Adults learn the fastest. Adults can usually learn to play with simple songs in two to four months.
-- Should I start on an acoustic guitar or an electric guitar?
Unless you are really interested in acoustic music, I would recommend that you get an electric guitar. Most recorded pop music uses electric guitar. Dollar for dollar, they are probably a better value than acoustics. They are more durable, less delicate than acoustics. You can also do more of your own maintenance on an electric, since most everything is either bolted, screwed or soldered in place. Click here to read more.
-- Why are some guitars so expensive and other guitars so cheap?
The short answers are quality control and quality of materials. The quality of the wood used for the body and the neck can affect the price. Cheaper guitars use plywood bodies. More expensive guitars are made of more expensive, solid wood pieces. Cheaper guitars also have cheaper paints, lacquers, and finishes. Click here to read more.
-- What's the difference between the lesson downloads and the lesson CD-ROM?
The download lessons are the same as the lessons on the CD-ROM. Downloading lets you purchase lessons individually, instead of buying all of the lessons. The CD-ROM has lessons 1 through 7. (More lessons will be available in early 2006.)
-- Is there a guarantee for the CD-ROM? for the downloads?
Both the CD-ROM and the downloads are guaranteed for 60 days after the date of purchase.
